Wirral Backyard Ultra

This is a brand new addition to the Backyard Ultra UK calendar: Wirral Backyard Ultra, taking place on 25th July 2026 at Wirral Country Park.

Set among beautiful green parkland with stunning seaside views, this new venue offers a unique Backyard experience just around the corner from Liverpool. It’s a fantastic location that blends open coastal scenery with a classic Backyard Ultra trail atmosphere, and we can’t wait to bring the format to this part of the UK! The course makes the most of Wirral Country Park’s beautiful surroundings, combining open greenery with coastal views throughout the loop.

What Is a Backyard Ultra?

A Backyard Ultra is no ordinary race – it's a test of endurance created by Gary "Lazarus Lake" Cantrell. Runners must complete a 4.167 mile lo (6.7km) on the hour, every hour. Each lap must be completed in under 60 minutes. Use any leftover time to rest and recover. Keep going until only one runner remains!

The Rules

Everyone starts together at 12PM. Complete your lap before the next hour to stay in the race. Faster laps mean more rest, but also more fatigue. There’s no minimum distance and no set finish line. You stop when you can’t start the next lap. It’s a personal challenge, whether that’s 1 lap or running through the night! Most runners go farther than they ever have before. Only one will finish. Will it be you?

  • You may Refund yourself the entry cost less 100% until 7 days after you purchase.
  • You may Refund yourself the entry cost less 50% until 14 days after you purchase.
  • You may Refund yourself the entry cost less 10% until 30 days after you purchase.

Instalment Plan

  • You may pay in equal instalments up to a either a maximum set by the organizer or monthly up to one month before the event, whichever is less.
  • There is an additional fee of 1% + £0.50 for each instalment.
  • You are responsible for ensuring payments are made, missing payments may mean removal from the event and loss of any monies paid to date.
