Ultra X South Africa 2027: applications are open

This is an application, not a straight entry. The MAX is capped at 100 runners. The 2026 edition sold out in days and the waitlist filled. 30 of the 2027 places were taken before applications even opened, so 70 remain and we expect them to go quickly.

How it works

  1. Apply below. Choose your entry type and payment option (pay in full or deposit plus monthly instalments), then complete checkout. Your card is saved but nothing is charged.
  2. Applications close in early November 2026. Nothing more is needed from you until then.
  3. We review applications from 2 November 2026 and email every applicant with the outcome. Your place is confirmed only when you receive an acceptance email.
  4. If accepted, we charge your saved card using the payment option you chose. If not, nothing is taken.

Ultra X South Africa “The MAX” is 330km over 6 days with 8,300m of climbing. It starts in the Tulbagh Valley and cuts through the sandstone wilderness of the Cederberg Conservancy, across land rarely open to the public. Expect technical climbs, scorching desert days and freezing mountain nights, and an 80km long stage in the middle of it.

We carry your heavy kit, food and gear between camps. You carry your mandatory safety kit and run.

Included in your entry: the full 6-stage course, wild race villages each night, live tracking, expedition medical cover and sports therapists at every camp.

Who should apply

This is an extreme event. We prioritise applicants with multi-day or ultra experience. Previous Ultra X finishers are welcome and will be asked to confirm it in the application.

Credits

  • You may exchange your entry for a Credit at a cost of £50.00 until 11/07/2027.
  • You may exchange your entry for a Credit at a cost of £400.00 until 27/09/2027.
  • You may exchange your entry for a Credit at a cost of 50% of your ticket price until 08/10/2027.
  • You will have 12 months (from the date of the event) to spend your credit. You may also use your credit to enter someone else.

Instalment Plan

  • You may pay in equal instalments up to a either a maximum set by the organizer or monthly up to one month before the event, whichever is less.
  • There is an additional fee of 1% + £0.50 for each instalment.
  • You are responsible for ensuring payments are made, missing payments may mean removal from the event and loss of any monies paid to date.
